Research description

Introduction

The Department of Telecommunications is a part of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Automatics, Computer Science and Electronics (AGH University of Science and Technology, Krakow, Poland). It is an important centre for education and research in communications technologies focusing on high-speed networking and services to the e-world. The Department staff consists of more than 40 people (including 5 full professors); about 20 Ph. D. students are affiliated with the Department. Since 1996 the Department of Telecommunications has been involved in various European projects including 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th Framework Programmes (IP, STREP, NoE, CSA). It was also active in developing strategies and network planning for major Polish telecommunications operators. Professors and researchers of the Department served as consultants for network operators, equipment vendors, and regulatory bodies in Poland and abroad. They were also invited to review European projects. Department members have been active in professional societies, organizing international and national conferences (including IEEE and IFIP events) and research workshops as well as holding important editorial positions in leading journals and magazines, such as IEEE Communications Magazine, IEEE Transactions on Communications, Computer Communications, or Security and Communication Networks.

As a follow-up of the enormous research record at the Department of Telecommunications rights for conferring a degree of Ph. D. and applying for a professor title were granted to the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Automatics, Computer Science and Electronics in 1999 and 2002, respectively.
